11 Day Service Tour to South Africa
Day 1 Friday: Arrive Cape Town, South Africa
Direct flights usually arrive in Cape Town in the evening
(10pm). Settle into your accommodation and enjoy a late
night snack/meal that we will be provide as we’re sure
everyone will be hungry (and tired) after the long trip.
(Dinner)
Day 2 Saturday: Day of relaxation and discovery
Wake up to the most beautiful city in the world. In
order to get rid of jet lag, we’ll spend the day hiking
outdoors, exploring the mountains that surround the city
such as Table Mountain and Lions Head. Being mid summer,
we’ll also spend some time relaxing on the white beaches
as we prepare for the work ahead. Lastly we’ll close
off the day with a beautiful African sunset from one
of the best vantage points in the City. (Breakfast, Lunch,
Dinner provided).
Day 3 Sunday: A truly local day!!
Begin the day with a church service and get to meet
local South Africans. After church, we’ll arrange lunch
with a local family trying out foods from a different
culture. After lunch, we’ll depart for a tour of the
scenic Cape Peninsula including the Cape of Good Hope
Nature Reserve. There might even be a chance for a short
hike or for the adventurous a swim in the sea where supposedly
the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet. Evening dinner will
be with local South Africans for a braai (barbeque).

Day 4 – 8: Monday till Friday: Service Projects
These 5 days are spent working on community service
projects. These projects would be based at Baphumelele
Children’s Home in the location of Khayelitsha and include:
- Organising a holiday programme of fun activities
and traditional craft activities.
- Providing labour and construction work for important
maintenance jobs
(B, L, D provided)
Day 9 Saturday: From history to present
Today we travel to Robben Island and the prison – home
to former President Nelson Mandela for 17 years. The
island provides an insight into South Africa’s Apartheid
history as well as a glimpse into the future especially
concerning racial reconciliation. After lunch we travel
to Kayamandi Township on the outskirts of Stellenbosch
(South Africa’s 2nd oldest town) for our two night home
stay. This promises to be one of the highlights of the
trip. (B, L, D)
Day 10 Sunday: Time out
Day of rest. We start the day by joining in a local
church service within Kayamandi Township. Experience
the warmth and hospitality of a community that has experienced
much pain under the apartheid government. After church
we’ll enjoy a local lunch in the community and spend
the afternoon getting to know our South African hosts.
(B, L, D)
Day 11: Last minute sights and tastes…
Morning at leisure for a chance to do last minute things
such as extra sight seeing or shopping. We are also in
the heart of the winelands so we can schedule a wine
tasting and cellar tour if the group was interested.
If you’re not ready to go home, why not consider an extension
package to go on safari in one of South Africa’s game
parks? A once in a life time opportunity! Otherwise transfer
to airport for your flight home. (B)
